Program (Issues) Focus

At the League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights-Mount Prospect-Buffalo Grove, our mission is to defend democracy and empower voters. For the 2026–2027 program year, we are focusing our advocacy and educational efforts on the following pillars, viewed through our overarching lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Representative Government: Voting Rights & Election Processes

We continue our core work to ensure active, informed participation across the political spectrum. Our Voter Services efforts will focus on:

  • Voter Education: Defending against voter suppression and combating mis/disinformation, with specific attention to federal threats like the SAVE Act.

  • Informed Voter Turnout (GOTV): Ensuring administrative readiness and managing VOTE 411 as our primary voter guide to prepare our community for the 2026 Gubernatorial and 2027 Consolidated Elections.

  • Voter Registration: Launching a digital campaign in partnership with High School District 214 and St. Viator High School to encourage teen registration and participation.

Representative Government: Civil Conversations

We are committed to fostering healthy democratic discourse. We will host events and activities designed to teach and practice the skills necessary for productive, civil conversations within our community.

Social Policy: Basic Human Needs

We are prioritizing Women’s Empowerment, including Equality of Opportunity. Our programming will explore this area through a DEI lens, focusing on the intersection with gender equality.

Social Policy: Environment & Climate Crises

Our active Environment Interest Group continues its dedicated work. We remain focused on advocacy and education regarding energy, land use, natural resources, solid waste, climate change, and water resources.

Open Government & Immigration

We remain steadfast in our commitment to open and transparent government—advocating for public access to local elected board meetings and community input. Additionally, we are actively studying and advocating on the issue of Immigration, alongside unresolved initiatives from the previous year.
